Compositions
Naomi LaViolette is a Portland-based composer, performer, singer-songwriter, and versatile pianist. With a master’s degree in classical piano performance, Naomi has expanded her musical expertise across jazz, folk, soul, and pop genres. Her choral compositions, praised by Fanfare Magazine for their "mastery of choral writing," have been performed globally in diverse settings—ranging from professional choirs to amateur groups, sacred services, and academic performances.
In 2018, her piece “Melancholy Flower” (co-composed with Steven Craig Goodwin) was featured on Shadows on the Stars, an album by the Oregon Repertory Singers, which went on to win the American Prize. Other works of hers, such as “Night of Silence,” “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence,” and “Winter Solstice,” were included in the Oregon Repertory Singers’ 2023 album, 50. Naomi's background in music theory, musical analysis and composition, combined with her extensive experience as a choral accompanist, chamber musician, and soloist since 2001, deeply informs her compositional voice.
A published composer with Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Naomi is also a contributing composer for the Oregon Symphony Lullaby Project and has served as the Oregon Repertory Singers' accompanist since 2004. Her involvement with the Saving His Music project has garnered national and local media attention, including features on CBS Sunday Morning, The Week, The Oregonian, and The Saturday Evening Post. Their album The Nature of Love spent three weeks on the Billboard New Age chart in January 2018.
With over 20 years of experience as a recording artist, Naomi has released six solo albums and has been a sought-after session performer on many others. Under the name Lucente Skye, she also releases solo piano compositions. Naomi’s performance career has taken her to prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Portland Jazz Festival, and live broadcasts on All Classical Portland’s Thursday’s @ 3. Her music, whether written for choirs, chamber ensembles, soloists, or orchestras, is deeply rooted in themes of nature, spirituality, and human connection. Steven Zopfi

When I first heard Naomi LaViolette’s original composition “Noel,” I knew I had to include it for Christmas liturgies. It’s a beautiful melody that can be as simple or complex as desired, depending on the size of your ensemble or choir. I had a small, professional ensemble that made it come to life. I highly recommend the solo instrument part for violin be included. It’s gorgeous!
Heather Lindamann
Director of Music at St. Thomas More Parish
The sign of a great Christmas carol is that it seems like has always existed. Naomi's "Noel" feels like it has been drawn from the recesses of the ages and from our oldest memories, yet is one of the freshest Christmas works I have heard in the past 20 years.

Director of Chor Leoni, Vancover B.C.
Report a Performance
As a member of ASCAP, I report my premieres and all performances to that performing rights organization. Please send me a PDF of the program from your concert. Most concert halls pay a fee to ASCAP or BMI for performance of works by their registered members. I ask that your performance venue registers the performance of my piece with ASCAP because I receive a small payment from these performances. I would appreciate a recording of the premiere performance for my own personal use. This recording will not be sold but rather used for my own reflection and promotional material.
